Back-to-School Fun Day 2024 – A Community Success

On Saturday, 10th August 2024, the Back-to-School Fun Day hosted by the Thompson &Troupe Foundation brought together students, parents, and community members for an event filled with fun, learning, and preparation for the new school year. Held at the Raymonds Community Center, the event saw an impressive turnout, offering various activities and support for families getting ready for the academic year ahead.

A Day Full of Activities
Feedback from attendees highlighted the diversity of activities as one of the event’s most appreciated aspects. Families enjoyed a wide range of games, sports, arts and crafts, and interactive dancing competitions for the children, led by volunteers from the Foundation. A handful of opportunities were provided for older students to engage with their peers and learn from one another. This was well-received by parents, while the younger ones were delighted in the playful and competitive atmosphere.

The variety was praised for catering to all age groups, with activities suited for both younger children and teenagers. Survey responses noted that parents particularly appreciated the balance of entertainment, educational value, and school bags and stationery, as well as refreshments and plenty of food for all the children to recharge after the eventful activities. Many commented that their children were “excited to return to school” after participating in the day’s events.

Community Engagement and Attendance
Attendance exceeded expectations, with approximately 600 community members joining the fun day. Survey feedback showed that many families were grateful for the opportunity to gather, especially after a busy summer. One respondent said, “This event brought us together, especially our children, and made us feel prepared for the school year. It was a great way to meet other families and for our children to make new friends.”

The event’s success can also be attributed to the strong partnerships and willingness of the community, as well as the security of the local police surveillance.

Over 20 volunteers helped set up, manage booths, and distributed supplies, showing how much the town values community-driven events.

Distribution of Supplies and Fees
In addition to the festivities, the Back-to-School Fun Day focused on providing support for students in need. Thanks to the generous donations from sponsors, and the relentless fund-raising events facilitated by TTF, there was a successful distribution of over 500 school supply kits, including essentials such as notebooks, pencils, 515 and backpacks. Uniform distribution also had a great response, with more than 19 students receiving their school uniforms at no cost.

To ensure that no child started the school year without the necessary tools, the foundation also subsidised school fees for 17 students, covering part of their enrollment and miscellaneous expenses.

Many families expressed their gratitude for the financial relief, with one parent noting, “This is a huge help for us, especially with the rising costs of everything. Now I can focus on my kids’ education without worrying about the extra expenses.

Positive Feedback and Future Events
Survey results gathered after the event overwhelmingly praised the event’s organization, inclusivity, and the range of resources provided. Respondents indicated that they would love to see more community events like this one in the future. Some suggestions included more specialised workshops for older students and career guidance sessions for high schoolers, an idea the TTF is excited to explore in future editions with the support if sponsorship and more volunteers.

Our third year Back-to-School Fun was more than just a fun-filled day—it was a testament to the power of community spirit. With strong support from volunteers and sponsors, the TTF was able to create an event that not only entertained but also supported families in preparing for the new school year.

As we look ahead to the coming months, the TTF remains committed to fostering community engagement and continuing to provide meaningful support for our students. Here’s to a successful 2024-2025 school.
